Course Description

The recorder has been an icon of general music since the early 1900s. Students will learn the historical significance of the recorder and the rationale for its adoption into the American Public School system. They will review current thoughts regarding the merits of including recorders and approaches to teaching recorders, hone their recorder skills, and develop strategies to teach and differentiate recorder content for students.

Throughout the course, students will create lessons and activities to develop a recorder curriculum using their pedagogical knowledge and solidify their mission statement on including teaching recorders in the general music program.

Each of the readings and projects teachers complete in this class directly supports creating a recorder curriculum and implementation plan to fit their teaching situation.
